Health benefits of traditional Japanese Matcha

Matcha provides nature’s highest source of L-theanine and catechins (polyphenols with potent antioxidant activity). The most abundant catechin present in matcha is epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), delivering approximately 3 x higher EGCG content than regular steeped green tea. Research on the benefits of green tea have been primarily focused on EGCG and its suggested molecular mechanisms to activate specific cellular signalling pathways that may play major roles in good health.

• Supports sustained energy: Matcha contains 25-35 mg of caffeine (approximately 1/3 of the caffeine in coffee) and 16 mg of L-theanine per 1/2 tsp serve. This provides the optimal natural balance for energy and focus support without the caffeine jitters.

Unlike other matcha teas, Tea Lover’s Matcha is shade grown and hand-picked at the first flush of spring when the leaves are young and fresh, bursting with the nutrients green tea is famous for. After picking, the leaves are de-stemmed and slowly stone ground into an ultra fine matcha tea powder. Most matcha is machine harvested (not hand-picked) then ball crushed, or heat pulverized into powder form, leaving the tea leaves with little nutrients and bitter tasting.
